BREITLING Superocean 44 SPECIAL

By TLex When something has special in its name, then you know its gonna be whats the word Im looking for? Thats it special! At least thats the general idea. So what have Breitling done to their SUPEROCEAN 44 that warrants its new special moniker?

Starting with its 44mm case that is now made from a sturdy block of satin-brushed black steel (as opposed to regular steel); this has been fitted with a brand-new unidirectional rotational divers bezel in shiny black ceramic. This in itself is pretty special however the best is yet to come!

The Superocean 44 Special has a completely new dial design with large over-sized white markers, accentuated by a thick luminescent coating and to go with them are large baton-type hands that have been designed to be clearly distinguishable from each other.

Making reading of dive-time way easier than with previous models thanks to also to different-shaped hour-markers for five-minute intervals, quarters and 12 oclock; and a bezel with 60-minute scale also highlighting five-minute intervals, quarters and 12 oclock.

And thanks to a red-tipped seconds indicator with a small luminescent triangle, the diver can at any stage check at a glance whether the movement is operating.

Further divers features include: a Sapphire crystal glare-proofed on both sides, a black ceramic bezel and a twin-gasket screwdown crown allowing the Superocean to dive safely down to them to a depth of 1000 meters.

Finally the Superocean 44 Special houses a self-winding movement officially chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), the only precision and reliability benchmark based on an international norm. It is presented on a black rubber divers strap featuring Breitlings signature and raised central ridge, or a row of portholes.

This might be a little clichd but if Breitling had put the Superocean logo in red that would have imho, been a very cool touch.

Breitlings Superocean models have been around since 1957; next year will be bang on 60 years, so can we expect an even more special edition of the Superocean 44? Its a strong likelihood, but until then, HEREs H2O and buysluxurywatchesformens idea of a special edition
