LINDE WERDELIN Oktopus II - DOUBLE DATE

By TLex It was previewed first HERE on OceanicTime, now the rest of the online watch community are buzzing about it. INTRODUCING the new LINDE WERDELIN Oktopus II DOUBLE DATE . . .

From LW LINDE WERDELIN, renowned for creating meticulously crafted timepieces with attachable digital instruments for diving and free skiing, presents Oktopus II Double Date at BaselWorld 2012.

The Oktopus II Double Date has been developed with the Reef in mind, LINDE WERDELINs in-house diving instrument, as well as inspired by the air-tight pressure chamber used for simulations when testing both the Oktopus II and the Reef.

The Oktopus II Double Dates innovative fivepart case construction ensures absolute water resistance as well as excellent protection against seawater corrosion.

To guarantee this we have chosen anticorrosive materials such as gold, titanium and ceramic, the last employed for the first time on our timepieces, says Morten Linde, creative mind at LINDE WERDELIN.

In the last five years, LINDE WERDELIN has undertaken the complex development of the Reef, acquiring unequalled expertise which has been applied into the Oktopus II, both in its design and structure.

The combination of the Oktopus II and the Reef emphasises LINDE WERDELINs philosophy stating time should be read analogue while performance, should be measured digital.

The Oktopus II represents a technological and ideological advancement of the original Oktopus which in turn was a development of the original Biformeter, LINDE WERDELINs first collection of timepieces. The result of this innovative construction is inspired by LINDE WERDELINs knowledge in crafting dive instruments.

Having completed the development and testing of the Reef in 2010 we had the opportunity to reconsider what our interpretation of a dive watch and instrument could be and we set about reconstructing the Oktopus, says Jorn Werdelin.

The case of the Oktopus II Double Date features a central movement chamber and four case parts assembled together with 16 screws. Eight screws seal the fixed bezel with the chamber and another eight inside the back-case. The chamber housing the movement is constructed for maximum resistance against water. The four case parts at three, six, nine and twelve oclock, are built separately from the movement chamber and are used to attach the strap as well as to hold the attachable instrument.

The construction was inspired by the air-tight pressure chamber used for diving simulations when testing both the Oktopus II and the Reef. All the screws comprise of laminated tension discs to tighten and reinforce the construction. The whole surface of the case undergoes a microbille and a satin finish to reflect light or shadow. The robust crown at 3 oclock bears an engraving of an octopus icon. The back case has been decorated with an octopus drawing by Morten Linde, as a reference to an earlier series - the Oktopus Tattoo.

The Oktopus II intentionally does not have a turning bezel as the information (time spent submersed) traditionally measured by a turning bezel is available in the Reef. The first three series of Oktopus II, are constructed in titanium, gold and ceramic some of the least reactive materials available and highly anti-corrosive to protect against the impact of long-term submersion into sea water.

The dial of the Oktopus II is built in two layers. The upper level is cut out in a stencil technique, inspired from the graffiti art. Bearing the LINDE WERDELIN logo and indexes 3, 6 and 9 in superluminova, together with the big calendar wheels, the dial reveals the icon of an octopus. The lower dial is made with a circular Cote de Geneve dial to give the effect of water ripples. Two laser-cut wheels at 11 and 1 oclock are powered by the big calendar complication.

Oktopus II, initially launched with a 3-hand big date movement, calibre 14580 is custom-made together with Dubois Depraz. We wanted to include a laser-cut big date centrally to make it very visible. says Jorn Werdelin.

H2O Kalmar 3Ti Damascus FixedBezel

By TLex H2O have released the latest model in their 3000m Kalmar exotic metals series. The 3Ti Damascus FixedBezel's case has been created by a specialist manufacturing process that laminates three grades of Titanium alloy.

Titanium Grade 2, Grade 4 and Grade 5 are layered together to produce a pattern that is very much reminiscent of Damascus Steel. Whilst the finish of the metal is visually stunning it remains quite subtle and easy on the eye. And because the watch is only made of Titanium it remains every bit as light as any other Ti Kalmar model.

This is the first time that this exotic material has been used in the watch-making industry, and as far as I know this is the first time that 3 Grades of Titanium have been combined in such a way. H2O once again bring us the rare and exotic!

Just 3 pieces of the Kalmar 3Ti Damascus FixedBezel have been produced - 33 were initially planned, however this was not possible due to the metal's tough manufacturing process, which was immensely time consuming and extremely costly.

All Kalmar 3Ti Damascus FixedBezel will come with a Titanium bracelet and Sapphire crystal display back, as well an H2O CNC buckle made from 3Ti Damascus. Please click HERE to be taken to H2O's Online Store or follow the icon below to find out more about H2O Watches . . .

LINDE WERDELIN Oktopus II

By TLex Morten Linde & Jorn Werdelin introduce the new LINDE WERDELIN Oktopus II - their interpretation of the ideal dive watch: unique in the fact that it has been designed with LW's own Dive Instrument in mind, the Reef. Together the Oktopus II and the Reef are among the two most sophisticated dive tools available to divers today! Linde Werdelin were able to draw upon their extensive experience and know-how with diving instruments to create the Oktopus II.

The Oktopus II measures 46mm x 15.25mm. It boasts a 5-part case construction, which blends a combination of Titanium, gold and ceramic to allow for a high level of corrosion resistance. This 5-part case construction protects the inner-workings of the watch in much the same way as a diving bell protects the diver. In fact the watch's movement is housed in a specialized inner cylinder, which is completely sealed to guarantee absolute water-resistance to 300meters.

Further features include a dual level dial: upper - with octopus icon, lower - with water-ripple effect. In reference to the first Oktopus model the caseback has been engraved with an Octopus. This an incredible new watch that not only illustrates the evolution of the LW's Oktopus, but perhaps the evolution of the dive watch itself - a watch that LW say has been made with such precision that it would not have been possible to make 10 years ago!

For this third edition, the organizers of Les Voiles de Saint Barth expect an ever more attractive line-up: 70 of the world's most beautiful yachts are already registered to compete in this breathtaking regatta. For several years now, the nautical world has been one of the favorite domains of the Richard Mille brand. Jaeger-LeCoultre MC Diving Auto Navy SEALs in 'Act of Valor'

By TLex Jaeger-LeCoultre's MC Diving Auto Navy SEALs hits the big screen AGAIN in the Navy SEALs' flick 'Act of Valor' in which actual active duty U.S. Navy Seals are used as actors. Although the characters they play are fictional, the weapons and tactics they use are the real deal.

The basic plot of the movie revolves around a SEALs team that is dispatched on an international manhunt after discovering a deadly terrorist plot against the United States. Jaeger-LeCoultre lent its support and provided their Master Compressor Diving Automatic Navy SEALs watches for the film. I'm not sure which of the characters were equipped with the JLC watches as there are no screen shots available that allow us to see.

JLC say that the timepieces used contained a new form of SuperLuminova that is particularly visible underwater and in the dark. The watches were powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre's highly accurate in-house automatic movements. The collaboration was developed under a trademark agreement with the U.S. Navy's permission.
