TUDOR HERITAGE Black Bay

By TLex TUDOR more than deliver the goods with their new heritage diver and they most certainly didn't get it wrong. Be transported back to 1954 and the pioneering days of SCUBA diving with the new Tudor HERITAGE Black Bay EDITION . . .

From TUDOR Steeped in the mysterious aura of a hidden bay, a long-buried treasure now rising to the surface, the new TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is the latest addition to the Tudor Heritage collection. A new interpretation of a benchmark model that left a lasting mark on the history of diving, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is a perfect embodiment of TUDORs vintage spirit.

EXQUISITE VINTAGE DETAIL Inspired by a model that first appeared in 1954, a period that saw the emergence of the first divers watches, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay has a domed dial, unusual burgundy colour bezel and Snowflake hands.

DEVOTED TO THE SEA Like a treasure emerging from the bottom of the sea, the Heritage Black Bay features lines inspired by the 1954 model: slender, elongated lugs, reworked and resized to produce a contemporary steel case with a diameter of 41 mm and enhanced by a domed crystal. The watch is waterproof to 200 metres (660 feet).

GENEROUS LUMINESCENCE The elegantly domed black dial displays generous luminescent hour markers for perfect visibility. The pink gold of the hands represent a gentle hint of nostalgia, suggesting the characteristic patina of older timepieces.

THE STRAP Equipped with the new folding clasp developed by TUDOR, the Heritage Black Bay model is delivered with a black fabric strap and a steel bracelet, or with a black fabric strap and a second strap in exclusive aged leather: another original touch for an elegant, contemporary watch.

ULYSSE NARDIN Blue Sea LE MARINE DIVER

From UN For over 166 years Ulysse Nardin has been creating some of the most reliable marine chronometers in existence. With this latest addition to the marine Diver collection, the Manufacture in Le Locle firmly establishes its reputation as a cutting-edge watchmaker.

Resolutely anchored in aquatic sports, the brand new Blue Sea is designed to tackle extreme conditions. It perfectly combines its dual function as a diving instrument and beautiful watchmaking piece. Blue Sea has a self-winding movement featuring a 42-hour power reserve indicator, oversized small seconds and large date display.

A symbol of the vigour of youth, this powerful timepiece showcases Ulysse Nardins constant advances in watchmaking technology. Its stainless-steel case, 45.8 millimetres in diameter, has been specially treated with a sophisticated vulcanisation process giving it a blue rubber coating with a remarkable appearance and a truly comfortable feel.

Its exhibition case-back reveals the self-winding movement also blued. The non-moving metal parts of the movement have been treated with a stainless blue titanium based alloy (ion sputtering process). Where necessary, the metal parts have been reworked to accommodate the blue coating, the thickness of which is 1 micron with a hardness of 1500 HV.

To enhance its look, a wave pattern adorns the structured strap and dial. The hour markers and hour and minute hands are covered with blue luminescent material for improved readability. Its power-reserve indicator is situated at 12 oclock while the small seconds and large date are displayed at 6 oclock. Small hands are painted blue. The sapphire crystal has been treated with an anti-reflective coating.

Fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel and screwed crown, its individually-numbered case is water-resistant to 200 metres. This edition is limited to 999 pieces, each individually numbered on the side of the case. The reliability of the Blue Sea is further strengthened by an exclusive black ceramic folding clasp and a blue rubber strap with ceramic components.

The diving chronograph has been designed in collaboration with leading Swiss designer, Jacques Fournier. It will be released later this year.

This is a very modern looking diver - poor man's HUBLOT possibly? I would take a guess that it's powered by a Quartz caliber, but you never know. Stay tuned for more . . .

Mhle-Glashtte MARINUS Chronograph SE Fulda Challenge

By TLex Mhle-Glashtte announce the new MARINUS Chronograph SE Fulda Challenge. It features a solid stainless steel case, which has been coated with DLC, fitted with a sapphire crystal and has a water-resistance of 30ATM. A tough and hardy dive watch - that has qualified for the 2012 Fulda Challenge of which Mhle-Glashtte were the official timekeeper. The watch was exposed to extreme elements and temperatures as low as -40C as it made its way across 1,500 kilometers of Canada's Yukon territory . . .

From Mhle-Glashtte The Marinus Chronograph is distinctive and unscathed as it emerges from the water. But the watch is no longer satisfied with tackling just one element. Whether surfing, snowboarding, sailing or snowshoeing: this outdoor timepiece from Mhle-Glashtte also stands up to the challenges of snow and ice. The Marinus Chronograph has qualified for the Fulda Challenge 2012 thanks to its striking character and is now being launched as a special limited edition.

The strengths of the Marinus Chronograph are evident at a glance: its solid stainless steel case with a black highly resistant DLC coating (diamond like carbon) and 44 mm diameter can live up to any challenge. With its domed 2.5 mm thick sapphire crystal and a resistance to test pressures of 30 ATM, the Marinus Chronograph stands up to external influences such as temperature fluctuations, salt water and changes in pressure. These are all valued properties in the extreme conditions of the Fulda Challenge.

This Arctic decathlon takes place every year in the Yukon Territory in Canada. Athletes battle against the cold along the 1,500 km route as well as tackling the challenges of the individual disciplines which include dog sledding, skijoring and a half marathon at -40C. Mhle-Glashtte took part in the extreme event for the first time this year as the official timekeeper. To mark this commitment, a limited edition series of 250 Marinus Chronograph models was released.

The fact that you can tell the time with the Marinus Chronograph in virtually any conditions is all thanks to the Mhle chronograph movement MU 9408. The patented woodpecker neck regulation guarantees accuracy even under the harshest of conditions.

A 48-hour power reserve, stop-seconds mechanism and fast date corrector complete the technical features of this watch.

The non-reflective sapphire crystal offers an unrestricted view of the black watch face at all times; the white numerals and two totalizers stand out clearly from the background. The uncluttered design means that the small seconds display and minutes counter can be viewed at a glance. The one-sided rotating bezel with its red ceramic insert stands out easily against the otherwise black design of the watch. Thanks to the hands, numerals and indices coated with Super-LumiNova, the watch offers optimal legibility even in dark conditions or under water. The light spot at the zero point on the bezel enhances this further.

Equipped with all of these properties, the Marinus Chronograph can stand up to any challenge, regardless of conditions. This timepiece is the optimal partner for extreme athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who live their lives at the limit.

Alessandro Baldieri SEAMONSTER V2.0

By TLex Here's a sneak peek at the new version of the Alessandro Baldieri Sea Monster, which is due for release in a number of color variations this June. Its 46mm case, which will house an automatic movement (not sure which one yet) has a water-resistance 200m or 660feet and is fitted with a sapphire crystal.

I quite like the case design - nice side profile. However the dial leaves me a little confused - there don't appear to be lumed hour markers at 6 or 12 o'clock, but instead these little hexagon icons? The lightnig bolt second hand is a little too much for this dial (memories of STOLAS).

There's an interesting dive mask etching on the caseback with the text: 'SUB Italiana'. The mask looks looks a lot like one of those camera masks. The new Sea Monster will be a Limited Edition of 500 pieces. Stay tuned for more soon . . .

OMEGA Planet Ocean CERAGOLD (tease)

By TLex OMEGA have released a teaser VIDEO detailing what will be the highlights of their exhibition at Baselworld next week. But does the tease reveal a little too much?! Looking at the video we can see what look like new versions of the latest Planet Ocean family, which are using a new Omega proprietary technology known as CERAGOLD.

An educated guess would be that CERAGOLD is somewhat similar to the Liquidmetal technology that Omega already use, so perhaps fusing solid gold with ceramic to create ceramic bezel inlays with solid gold markers! Cool! Expensive, but cool! Stay tuned for more soon . . .
